The major fire that destroyed much of the bikes and equipment for the inaugural FIM MotoE World Cup has resulted not just the cancellation of this week’s test, but also the planned season-opener at the same circuit during the Spanish MotoGP weekend of May 3-5.
However, the new electric bike championship will go ahead in revised form, with a new 2019 calendar announced ‘in due course’.

A Dorna statement added that, ‘while an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire… no motorcycles were charging at the time of the incident in the box in which the fire started.
‘Work is already underway to begin rebuilding and replacing materials and motorcycles lost in the fire.’
MotoE had completed the first day of its first test of the year, before the fire started shortly after midnight this morning.
The planned 2019 MotoE calendar, all in support of MotoGP races, was as follows:
Jerez – 5th May
Le Mans – 19th May
Sachsenring – 7th July
Austria – 11th August
Misano – 15th September (Two Race Event)
